Helical piers also are known in the soil remediation industry as helical torque anchors, helical piles, screw piles, and screw anchors. They are a key component for stabilizing new foundations and raising existing foundations for residential homes and commercial structures. There are many benefits of using helical piers, especially in the region where loose granular soils can be found in many sites.
Product introduction:
The screw pile foundation system is an intelligent alternative fixation method suitable for all devices that depend on this type. Tests carried out on different soils have shown clear advantages in terms of wind load and horizontal load and standing over most concrete foundations which stand on the ground by their own weight.
Our spiral pile has been used in Australia, Germany, Japan and China due to the numerous advantages of its concrete's positive environmental properties. Our screw piles take just a few minutes to install, no waiting, ready for immediate use, can withstand pressure, and the ground can be restored to its original state by simply unscrewing the equipment. The spiral pile can be reused and can be repositioned as many times as required.
Our spiral pile, made of Q235 (hot-dip galvanized), is corrosion-resistant and can be used for a long time.
As factory - manufacturer, we are able to produce various types of lead sections for the pile or anchors shaft and varied size of helical steel plates, which means the steel grade, length, thickness, diameter of the pile shaft and number of helices, their diameter, pitch angle, steel plate thickness, position on the pile shaft can be customized according to customers' drawing or sample.
There are solid square shaft helical piles and hollow round shaft piles available. They both work well upon choosing the suitable type according to project ground conditions. The shaft consists of helices, number of which is customizable according to soil conditions. When project need combination of square shaft and round shaft, bolted coupling will join these segments which also within our manufacturing capability.

General contractors are now seeing the benefits of pre-construction helical pile underpinning as well as the cost savings associated with expensive callbacks for foundation repairs after the job is complete. Helical piers have been used for almost two centuries for underpinning the support of new bridges and structures as well as foundation slab repair, elevated walkways, tieback anchors for retaining walls, pump and pipeline supports, and electric utility applications.
Load Bearing and Bearing Capacity Benefits
Since helical piers are designed with helices much like a screw, they can be driven deep into the ground below by using hydraulic machinery to increase the load bearing of heavy structures and bearing capacity of foundations.
By and large, when loose granular soils make construction difficult for traditional foundation installation, helical piers benefit general contractors with the cost savings associated with avoiding expensive and large excavations because they simply thread into the ground.
The Benefits of Utilizing Helical Piers for General Contractors
As mentioned above, there are many benefits of utilizing helical piers for increasing the load bearing for weak granular soils and improving the bearing capacity of foundations. The benefits are far-reaching and include:
Fast installation and immediate load-bearing capacity
Ideal for limited access sites
Pre-engineered and easily modified on site
Cost savings as opposed to using auger cast piles and drilled shafts
Instant torque-to-bearing capacity feedback for better production control
Uses smaller equipment and cleaner installation
No downtime waiting for concrete to cure
Provides a deep foundation for increased bearing capacity
Discourages soil disturbance during the installation
The Benefits for Foundation Repair
Helical piers installed for foundation repair by a certified soil remediation company is the preferred choice for home and business owners as well as general contractors. This method is a proven solution that adequately and effectively raises settled concrete and stabilizes foundations for proper repair with deep foundation support. Other reasons to consider helical pile underpinning existing structures and additional benefits include:
No vibration
Ease of installation
Installed torque correlates to capacities
Immediate load transfer after installation
Easily load tested that verifies capacity
Installation in any weather condition
Little to no site disturbance
Installs below active soils
Lowers excavation costs
Deep Foundation Benefits
Helical piles and other complex variations are generally utilized for deep foundations. They're important because they transfer the load of a structure or building deep into the ground rather than having the load sit on the surface. Helical piers are a great choice for deep foundation projects and structures that involve poor soil conditions, site-unique constraints, and large loads.
Although there are many parts to a foundation such as drilled shafts and footings, the most important part of a deep foundation is the pile itself, which can be a large pillar, rod or column driven deep into the earth. The pile that benefits deep foundations that best is the helical pile. Helical piers can support large loads and anchor the structure in place by a system known as underpinning. Additionally, helical piles are quicker and more cost-effective than other types of piles or deep foundation support systems.
The Benefits of Helical Piling for Varied Terrain
Helical Piers can be installed in varied terrain with a wide range of soil types and possible configurations. This makes them ideal for sites with sloped landscapes and soils that range from loose sand to stiff clay. They can also be installed in locations with high water tables, making them an excellent choice for clients and investors building structures in coastal regions.
The Faster Installation Benefits of Utilizing Helical Piling
When compared to other types of pile installations that can be time consuming and expensive, helical piles offer a much faster rate of installation with typical rotation rates ranging between 6 to 10 rpm. Although certain factors can impact each site differently, most anchors can be driven approximately 0.6m per minute.
Meaning, a 15-m helical pier installation can be achieved in under 30 minutes. This amazingly fast approach not only speeds up the construction process, but it also eliminates the need to wait for concrete to cure. And lastly, the major benefit of fast helical piling is its ability to instantly carry loads upon installation.
Engineering and Sustainability Benefits
Helical piles are designed with advanced engineering and sustainable technology for easy removal once they have fulfilled their purpose. Meaning, they are the perfect solution for sites that have temporary structures built on them or turning a developed site back into its natural state, leaving minimal impact on the environment. Helical piers are sustainable because they can be reused from site to site, making them more cost-effective than permanent pilings like concrete.
The Benefits of Hiring a Company Specializing in Helical Anchors
When it comes to professional engineering and installations of helical pilings, hiring a soil remediation company with vast experience and extensive knowledge of soil composition is highly recommended. Professional businesses utilize advanced analytical soil data and the latest technology to properly install helical anchors at the correct depth with underpinning in key locations to ensure foundation stability and bearing capacity.
Professional soil remediation companies offer a wide range of helical anchors and can recommend the best type to use for your specific site and structure. They also provide guidance and custom engineering to meet complex construction designs. When you hire a soil remediation company that specializes in helical anchors, your biggest benefit is knowing that your structure won't sink and cost you thousands in unnecessary foundation repairs down the road.

How Helical Piers/Piles Work
Used vertically, they cost-effectively transfer the higher load-bearing capacity of denser subsoils to the surface where the soils may be soft and weak. Screw piles are also ideal for your soil or structure retention projects when installed horizontally or at in-between angles.
Today's helical piers are made from either round or square extruded steel shafts with one or more welded helical plates per shaft. The plates both slice into the ground while providing compression, lateral and uplift support to the shaft. Pile segments are added via couplings to increase pier depth.
The Many Benefits of Helical Pile Foundation Systems
Perhaps more than any other style of deep foundation support, helical piles have a long list of advantages as a support solution for your next pre-construction or remediation activity that offer meaningful cost savings.
Ease of Installation
The installation of helical piles is accomplished with a hydraulic torque motor mounted to portable torque installation equipment. Installation is rapid, especially when compared to concrete structures installation. In a matter of a few hours, a dozen or more screw piers can be installed with minimal site impact.
During foundation, retaining wall or marine structure installations, precise placement of support structures is critical. Especially with handheld torque installation equipment, pier surface and depth placement are exact. Additionally, if engineering plans change mid-project that require moving piers, they are easily extracted and repositioned.
Immediate Loading
As the installation of a pile progresses, higher torque is required to screw piers into the denser earth below. Higher torques mean higher load-bearing capacity at the surface and great axial load capacity for the pier. Once set at the proper depth, a pier's load capacity is immediately available to you. Compare that to concrete foundations that require extensive excavation and cure time.
Functional Versatility
Because of their ability to provide strength in more than one direction, you should consider helical piles for projects where concrete support structures are impractical. Most often, these piers are installed vertically, but horizontal or angular installation is easily accomplished as well.
This makes them especially useful for your earth retention projects or lateral support of walls and foundations. In Florida, they are ideal for new seawall construction and for repairing aged or damaged sea walls by creating tension inward toward the ground.
Helical piers also require little clearance, which makes them a preferred solution when your site's clearances are minimal or other structures are close by.
Outstanding Cost Savings
Except in cases of foundation retrofit that may require exposing footings, there is no excavation required to install helical piers. That means there is no hauling of spoils either. Additionally, the cost of concrete, spillage and the delays while it cures are avoided.
Because of their adaptability for an array of project types, you will also find that they cut down on pre-construction planning and prep activities. All of these factors taken together mean helical piles are an exceptionally economical solution for ground support and retention.
Environmentally Beneficial
It is clear that compared to concrete foundations, the installation of helical piers almost completely eliminates site damage and cleanup costs. Additionally, fuel costs associated with concrete are significantly reduced.
Another immediate environmental benefit is that pier installation produces minimal vibration, which is critical in sensitive areas or when you are working close to occupied buildings.
Helical piles have another significant environmental advantage. Even years after installation, they can be easily removed if necessary and reused on other projects.
A Wide Array of Applications
For commercial buildings, homes and industrial sites located anywhere from the mountains to the sea, helical piles are often the most practical, durable and cost-effective solution for support and retention projects.
New Construction
In new construction, helical screw piles are used for decks over earth or water, pedestrian bridges, and boardwalks. You will find them indispensable for beachfront projects such as seawalls, bulkheads, pipe anchors or boat moorings as they can penetrate the water bottom through sand and silt. They are ideal for towers plus signage and lighting supports too.
Retrofitting of Existing Structures
For improving soil slippage, helical piers are often used to improve slab support, tying back retaining walls to solid earth when repairing cracked Florida seawalls. They can effectively provide lateral support to existing foundations or when leveling foundations or other concrete structures that have settled.
